Fourth Fridays Art Walks in Downtown Lee’s Summit are packed with a variety of activities including artist receptions, artist showcases, Music in the Park at Howard Station Park, street theater, Yoga in the Streets, and even some surprises! Join us for this exciting 2017 season, happening on the 4th Friday of the month from March through August.

Put your walking shoes on and join us for a street performance featuring a romance for two and a chorus of cell phones on the streets of Downtown Lee’s Summit. We will have one performance at 7 p.m. beginning at Red Door Wine Store. Cellular Cenes is presented by Summit Theatre Group and Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street.

The Market is open from 7 a.m. to sell-out Wednesdays and Saturdays, and is made up of more than 50 vendors featuring a variety of fresh produce, plants, meat, baked goods, handmade crafts and much more. The market is open April 1 through Nov. 18, 2017. Convenient parking can be found in the lot next to the Farmers Market on Douglas Street, or at the City Hall parking garage at the corner of Second and Green streets.

Community Prayer Walk

Community Prayer Walk
People of all faiths and contemplative practices are invited to join a “Community Prayer Walk” on Saturday, May 27, along the scenic Carl L. Chinnery Nature Trail at Unity Village.

Participants in the event, sponsored by Unity World Headquarters, can walk the 2.4-mile trail at any time between 8-10 a.m.“I think it’s a wonderful way for people to come together on a spring day to enjoy the beauty of nature and spiritual fellowship,” says Chinnery, a longtime Lee’s Summit attorney and civic leader.
Hosting the event are Chinnery, founding partner of Chinnery Evans & Nail, and Rev. Linda Martella-Whitsett, vice president of Silent Unity®, the prayer ministry of Unity World Headquarters.
“We envision this as an informal event,” says Martella-Whitsett. “You’re welcome to walk in silence on your own, come with friends, or join a group at the trail.”
The Carl L. Chinnery Nature Trail is a designated site along the Great Missouri Birding Trail.

Unity Village is located at M-350 Highway and Colbern Road near Lee’s Summit, Mo. There will be signage guiding participants to the start of the trail, which is located just past the Colbern Road entry to the Unity World Headquarters campus. Strollers are not allowed...  More >>

"Lest We Forget" Performance at The Pavilion at John Knox Vi

The community is invited to join us for a special evening filled with recognizing the power of music to heal, comfort and celebrate life. The Liberty Community Chorus, directed by Bryan Taylor, present this concert in recognition of Alzheimer’s disease; honoring those who have passed from the disease, celebrating patients and caregivers in the midst of the journey and in appreciation of the healthcare workers that care for them.
Dr. Sarah Hon, a senior partner at Meritas Health Neurology, will narrate the event, speaking on the background of the disease and the power of music on our emotional and mental well-being.

Come be a part of the uplifting concert. This event is free.

Heartland Beekeeping Partnership Workshop
Heartland Beekeeping Partnership Workshop: A Day with Jennifer Barry
This workshop is hosted in collaboration with the Heartland Beekeeping Partnership, an organization providing professional speakers to Western and Central Missouri beekeepers, regional clubs, and associations. Jennifer Barry, who researches honey bee health and sublethal effects of pesticides on beneficial insects and integrated pest management techniques, will provide several topical lectures in a mini-symposium format followed by apiary inspections and technical site-based instruction on marking queens, clipping wings, and taking mite samples. Beekeeping protective-wear is mandatory for inspections. Space is limited, please register in advance through Powell Gardens by calling 816-697-2600 x 306 or online at www.powellgardens.org.
