Midwest Aortic & Vascular Institute (MAVI) – the area’s largest independent vascular surgery practice – welcomes Marcus A. Barber, MD, to its growing practice.
After graduating from Wichita State University with degrees in biochemistry and sociology, Dr. Barber pursued a medical degree at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Following a general surgery residency at the University of Kansas-Wichita campus, Dr. Barber was accepted into the Vascular Fellowship program at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, a nationally recognized leader in the vascular field. From there, Dr. Barber spent three years honing his surgical talents at the largest vascular surgery practice in Knoxville, Tenn. He is certified in vascular surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
Skilled in multiple advanced vascular techniques, Dr. Barber will practice primarily at MAVI’s Independence office location at 4200 Little Blue Parkway and will have surgical credentials at 12 Kansas City area hospitals.
As leaders in the vascular care community, Dr. Barber will join fellow MAVI surgeons in diagnosing and treating a variety of artery and vein conditions, an acutely growing area of medicine as the population ages and diabetes impacts vascular health. Treatment techniques include both traditional and endovascular options.
“Dr. Barber’s open, easygoing personality and superb surgical abilities are a perfect fit for MAVI’s exponentially expanding practice,” said MAVI vascular surgeon Karl Stark, MD. “The demand for expertise in interventional procedures is increasing, and we are delighted that Dr. Barber is now part of the team providing optimal care for our patients.”
