Summit Christian Academy (SCA) senior Rachel Moore has completed the Gold Medal Level of the Congressional Award for Youth, a program which she began four years ago. Rachel is one of six students from Missouri to complete the Congressional Award program in 2018.

The Congressional Award requires students to complete tasks in four different areas. Rachel has completed over 400 hours of volunteer service, 200 hours of personal development, 200 hours of physical fitness, and she planned/executed a four night and five day exploration to Texas designed to foster resourcefulness, flexibility, and teamwork. Rachel’s volunteer work has been with the Reach out and Read (ROR) Kansas City Program in early childhood literacy. She hopes to inspire other students to serve their communities through volunteer work.

“It is no surprise to hear of Rachel receiving such a high honor,” shared SCA Academic Dean Mrs. Kimberlee Gill. “Her dedication to academics and social justice are second only to her desire to please her Lord.”

Rachel and her family will be traveling to Washington D.C. in June to attend the gold medal awards ceremony and receive her award from Congress. There will also be a state-wide awards ceremony sponsored by Missouri Congressional representatives in July.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to complete the Congressional Award,” shared Rachel.  “I would highly recommend this program to teens interested in serving others, gaining skills, and learning about themselves.  Through this program, I have deepened my commitment to living out my values and persisting to achieve a big goal.”

After graduating from Summit Christian Academy in May, Rachel plans to study mechanical engineering and pursue a career in that field.  She also plans to continue pursuing ways to serve her community.
